City Break

Want to get a feel for what life is like in a new country? Take the bus/train/metro in a big city, even if it takes you a while to work out how to buy your ticket (and validate it). You’ll get a real feel for the city and its people. Then venture away from the main tourist sights. Take tips from blogs about where locals eat, drink and be merry and don’t be scared to join them. The best food is never found where there’s a tourist set menu for a set price.

To get the best of what a country offers in terms of galleries, exhibitions and museums, there’s nothing better than a trip to one of its cities. You could also plan a trip around events or festivals happening in your chosen destination that suit your personal interests – think food, music, film; whatever floats your boat. Then there’s architecture. We often love nothing more that just wandering and looking up at the various beautiful buildings. They tell the story of a city; reflecting its past, its present and they can even give a glimpse into its future.
